Residential and business consumers demand smart integration, automation capabilities in future intrusion systems
TORONTO

TORONTO – (Jan. 6, 2020) –Consumers are expecting more from their intrusion systems and that includes additional capabilities like user friendly interfaces, interactive services, and video, along with systems that are cyber secure and future-proof.

In a recently published article by Security Systems News, Rob Davis, general manager, intrusion, security products, Johnson Controls, said that consumers of today demand a single platform that can manage both their automation and intrusion needs.

“A user-friendly interface that allows users to see activity statuses at all times is fundamental,” Davis identified, adding that this type of interface allows for more robust monitoring of potential threats and further hardens the system. “Interactive services are the backbone of a comprehensive system, allowing for security, automation and interoperability with other functionalities. Consumers have a lot of capabilities at their fingertips thanks to smart devices, so it is logical for security systems to also be accessible in this way.”

As a result, it’s critical that installers are in tune to where the technology is headed, which includes both edge-based technology and using devices as points of security. Davis recommended that installers listen to their residential customers’ needs before making recommendations. For commercial intrusion systems, he said it’s important to understand the customer’s business, how the user will interact with the system and review whether the system should be hardwired, wireless or a hybrid system.

In the future, Davis predicts “less reliance on the typical security panel and peripheral model and the companies that make the right investment in next-generation technologies, such as SaaS, machine learning and AI, are the ones who will be successful.”
